There was something interesting I noticed yesterday from the Scriptures, thought I'd share it with you and see if you have ever seen this before.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Mat 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
There is an interesting corralation between these two passages of Scripture that I want to share with you. The first thing I see is the Word of God. "Let there be light"....and "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased", the Word spoken by God our Father. The other I see is the Spirit of God upon the face of the deep in Genesis, yet in Matthew the Spirit of God lighting upon the Son of God after coming up out of the water. This is remarkable and a very beautiful picture. First, about the water, and what it represents.
Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the @!+!+ sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
The deep upon which the darkness was, and the face of the waters upon which the Spirit of God moved. Another passage comes to mind.
Pro 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Joe 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
Joe 2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
You see us in those waters? In darkness, and then the Spirit comes upon us, and God speaks the Word and there is light. God's Word is light, and he divides the light from the darkness, teaching us what is good and acceptable to God in sanctification. "and God divided the light from the darkness." Now look at this. The body of Christ comes up out of the waters. For it is written....
2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
We see Jesus, the one intercessor between God and man, in his baptism. The Lord stands between God and the waters, and see here that salvation is of him as he fullfilled all the righteousness of the law? "Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness." You see that the law slayed him typified by John immersing him into the water, but then Jesus comes back up having fulfilled all righteousness and the grave could not hold him, and when he arose he redeemed us with him as his body. Notice the Word of the Father, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased". Notice the little word "in", God is not only well pleased with him, but he is well pleased IN him. For it is written...
Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;
Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
Col 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblamable and unreprovable in his sight:
You see that in the beginning we were of the deep under darkness, then the Father sent forth his Word and there was light. Yet now, we see in the baptism of Christ that we have been redeemed from all peoples into Christ, as the dwelling of God the Father for in him he is well pleased! We also see here that after his resurrection, he sent us his Spirit, not upon the world or waters as in the beginning, but upon his own Son, and us in him.
Joh 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
Joh 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Truly, from the very beginning, it was all about the Son of God, in whom God is well pleased....Christ and his Church.
Joh 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Joh 17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
Joh 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
1Jo 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
Believe on his name, it is the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, the Lord is his name! And love your brethren who also know his name, for they have heard the Word and believe on his name.
Isa 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
