Quote:It is very possible that when Origen edited the LXX, that he tried to make it conform more to the New Testament.

Quote:Well, Holy, Bible,Then many Christian beliefs like the Virgin Birth in the translation of Isaiah 7:14 in Matthew 1 have no merit. After all, Mark , the oldest Gospel never mentions a Virgin Birth.

Quote:Old Testament Chapter 19AHAZ, KING OF JUDAHUnlike his father, King Jotham, who the Biblesays "Became mighty, and ordered his ways beforethe Lord, Ahaz became a wicked ruler. The Biblerecords that he even sacrificed his own sons in thefire, not much unlike the practice of modern dayabortionists who sacrifice the sons and daughters ofmany for mere profit.A mention of Ahaz, found outside of the Bible, was taken from a clay building inscription of Tiglath-Pileser III. In accounts from his battles against Israel, between 744 and 727 B.C., he records the following:"From these I received tribute . . . Ahaz, theking of Judah . . . including gold, silver, iron, fine cloth and many garments made from wool thatwas dyed in purple . . . as well as all kinds of lavishgifts from many nations and from the kings that ruleover them. This confirms 2Kings 16:8 which states:And Ahaz took the silver and gold thatwas found in the house of the LORD, and in thetreasuries of the king's house, and sent it as apresent to the king of Assyria. The reason God sent Tiglath-Pileser III and hishorde of Assyrians against Ahaz can be found in2Chronicles 28:19-21:For the LORD brought Judah low because ofAhaz king of Israel, for he had encouraged moraldecline in Judah and had been continually unfaithfulto the LORD.Also Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came to himand distressed him, and did not assist him. For Ahaztook part of the treasures from the house of theLORD, from the house of the king, and from theleaders, and he gave it to the king of Assyria; but hedid not help him.GODS GREATEST STATEMENT TO AHAZ:Moreover the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying, "Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD yourGod; ask it either in the depth or in the heightabove."But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test theLORD!"Then he said, "Hear now, O house of David! Isit a small thing for you to weary men, but will youweary my God also?"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you asign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and beara Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.Isaiah 7:10-14........Eventually they found the royal palace of Sargon, and a majesticone it was at that. How come they knew it wasSargons palace? Well because the bricks lining thepalace walls were engraved with his name. Not only was his name found, but his captureof the city of Ashdod as mentioned in Isaiah 20, wasengraved on the palace walls as well. And not onlythat, but digs from the city of Ashdod itself laterturned up fragments from a monument which recordedthis victory. One of the inscriptions read: Sargon, king ofAssyria, who conquered Samaria and the entireregion of Israel, he who made captives ofAshdod.Displayed in the British museum isthis monument which stood at theentrance of Sargons palace. Onthis statue of a winged bull thereis a inscription listing Sargon'stitles and achievements.Well, It seems like archeology always catchesup to the truth found in the Bible. And the followingtruth that Isaiah wrote concerning Sargon came topass. In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, andhe fought against Ashdod and took it, at thesame time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son ofAmoz, saying, "Go, and remove the sackcloth fromyour body, and take your sandals off your feet." Andhe did so, walking naked and barefoot. Then the LORD said, "Just as My servant Isaiahhas walked naked and barefoot three years for a signand a wonder against Egypt and Ethiopia, "so shallthe king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians asprisoners and the Ethiopians as captives, young andold, naked and barefoot, with their buttocksuncovered, to the shame of Egypt. "Then they shallbe afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectationand Egypt their glory. "And the inhabitant of thisterritory will say in that day, 'Surely such is ourexpectation, wherever we flee for help to be deliveredfrom the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape?'" Isaiah 20.......

Quote:And on this account they say that Jesus was begotten of the seed of a man, and was chosen; and so by the choice of God he was called the Son of God from the Christ that came into him from above in the likeness of a dove. And they deny that he was begotten of God the Father, but say that he was created as one of the archangels, yet greater, and that he is Lord of the angels and of all things made by the Almighty, and that he came and taught, as the Gospel (so called) current among them contains, that, 'I came to destroy the sacrifices, and if ye cease not from sacrificing, the wrath of God will not cease from you'
Quote:1. But again, those who assert that He was simply a mere man, begotten by Joseph, remaining in the bondage of the old disobedience, are in a state of death having been not as yet joined to the Word of God the Father, nor receiving liberty through the Son, as He does Himself declare: "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."357 But, being ignorant of Him who from the Virgin is Emmanuel, they are deprived of His gift, which is eternal life;358 and not receiving the incorruptible Word, they remain in mortal flesh, and are debtors to death, not obtaining the antidote of life...............1. God, then, was made man, and the Lord did Himself save us, giving us the token of the Virgin. But not as some allege, among those now presuming to expound the Scripture, [thus: ] "Behold, a young woman shall conceive, and bring forth a son,"400 as Theodotion the Ephesian has interpreted, and Aquila of Pontus,401 both Jewish proselytes. The Ebionites, following these, assert that He was begotten by Joseph; thus destroying, as far as in them lies, such a marvellous dispensation of God, and setting aside the testimony of the prophets which proceeded from God.
Quote:9. But besides, if indeed He had been the son of Joseph, He could not, according to Jeremiah, be either king or heir. For Joseph is shown to be the son of Joachim and Jechoniah, as also Matthew sets forth in his pedigree.423 But Jechoniah, and all his posterity, were disinherited from the kingdom; Jeremiah thus declaring, "As I live, saith the Lord, if Jechoniah the son of Joachim king of Judah had been made the signet of my right hand, I would pluck him thence, and deliver him into the hand of those seeking thy life."424 And again: "Jechoniah is dishonoured as a useless vessel, for he has been cast into a land which he knew not. Earth, hear the word of the Lord: Write this man a disinherited person; for none of his seed, sitting on the throne of David, shall prosper, or be a prince in Judah."425 And again, God speaks of Joachim his father: "Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Joachim his father, king of Judea, There shall be from him none sitting upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the heat of day, and in the frost of night. And I will look upon him, and upon his sons, and will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, upon the land of Judah, all the evils that I have pronounced against them."426 Those, therefore, who say that He was begotten of Joseph, and that they have hope in Him, do cause themselves to be disinherited from the kingdom, failing tinder the curse and rebuke directed against Jechoniah and his seed. Because for this reason have these things been spoken concerning Jechoniah, the [Holy] Spirit foreknowing the doctrines of the evil teachers; that they may learn that from his seed-that is, from Joseph-He was not to be born but that, according to the promise of God, from David's belly the King eternal is raised up, who sums up all things in Himself, and has gathered into Himself the ancient formation [of man].427
