The sermon on the mount says christians are the light of the world and salt of the earth. If this sermon is not for the church age, then when is it for?. The millenium where Christ is ruling with a rod of iron??? Not likely.

We are light amidst a world of darkness and we are salt in that the Holy Spirit dwells in believers. Salt is a preservative, it restrains decay and when the rapture occurs , that preserving effect will be gone and the world will plunge into the darkness of the great tribulation and the coming of the man of sin who was restrained while the church was on earth.
The new testament bears witness that we are light and therefore the sermon on the mt is applicable now. There is nothing in the sermon that is of any benefit in the millenium, it is for the here and now.
CJ, please take your doctrines from the scriptures and dont believe something just because Shain says so. Read the sermon on the mount and tell which can be applied to the church today?? I think you will have to admit it applies now while Christ has not yet come.
Showing mercy, persecution, light, salt, mourning, humility and such like is what should apply NOW, not after Christ has already come.

You have answered my question I have nothing more to say to you on this issue. It is now apparent to me that you haven't done your homework and I will excuse your spiritual ignorance and keep you in my prayers.

If you go line by line through the entire Sermon on the Mount and ask, who, what, when where how, Jew of Church why Christians need to do good works than you'll have your answer. There isn't a Christian, a Church, Resurrection, the Cross, within that entire three Chapters because its not directed to the Church but to the Jews for the millennium. This is why your theology on this issue is all screwed up. You can't justify loving your enemies when our own government yours too, tells us to kill them and we must obey that cause. Rom.13:1-6....read it. I have given all kinds of verses and examples to prove without any doubt from an honest reading you could conclude we are under a Doctrine of works instead of grace. You are standing on dangerous ground for doing so.
