i'm not exactlly sure what shain's point is, or more presisely, why he is making it. However, here is my take on the doctrine of 'love your enemies'. in Exo 23;22 God said he would be an enemy to our enemies. before any claim this is ot, 2 thes 1;6 says God sees it as a righteous thing torecomense tribulation to them that trouble you. We see in many Psalms Davd's idea of praying for his enemies, which can't be ignored, seeing as he fulfilled all the will of God. However, what he really did is close to a nt example of praying for your enemies -- that is, Paul's praying for hymenaeus and alexander in 1 tim 1;20 and in 2 tim 4;14-15. paul said he delivered them unto satan in the first verse given, but in the latter he prayed that the Lord reward them according t to his works [alexander, that is]. paul also said to be aware of him - which is my opinion of NOT turning the other cheek. paul already did that by turning him over to the Lord's judgment. a few verses later, paul did ask that certain things not be charged to some people's account, though. before i conclude, we must understand that our enemies are not of us. 2 john 2;19. that does not mean that all enemies are really enemies. i think titus 3 speaks that we were once foolish too, and romans 5 definitely says we were once God's enemies, and that's when Christ died for us! nevertheless, a manifested enemy is still an enemy. my point is that if paul understood the scripture, he showed us how to forgive and love our enemies. that is to let the Lord handle it. God may see it fit to forgive them. He also may see it righteous to damn them, either way, I trust in God it would be the right decision. But why forgive your enemies? for their sake or your own? It is good for them in that if you really are a child of God, God's going to honor that and be their enemies [unless Exo 23;22 and 2 thes 1;6 aren't true]. However, consider phil 3;13 which says to forget the past and look forward. titus 3;8-9 says to avoid contentions, as doing so is profitable to us. while we have our sites set on revenge, we are taking our eyes off God. in short, the best thing we can do is turn it over to God and let HIS will be done.

Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Jas 2:24
Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
