If I were to undertake the large task of starting with a KJV of the Bible and with that Bible open in front of me, re-write it from start to finish changing such words as "thy, thee, and thou", as well as other words no longer used in the same way today (like the word "pricks" in Acts 9:5 and 26:14), to their modern counterparts, would I have a "per-version"? Yes or no. Why or why not? After all, it's still based on the same manuscripts.

Yes you would. Next question...

See, here is the problem with your question. You have no AUTHORITY nor do you have any reason or historical protocol to do so. You can however change any misspelled words, or typing errors, or even scribal errors.

Now we already have at our disposal many commentaries that may help to explain some hard saying or other misunderstandings. But we don't call them the Word(s) of God. See what the other side wants to do is turn the Word(s) of God into a Commentary and that's corruption pure and simple. If you don't understand something, you study to seek out the truth from God's Word first of all. But today we live in a world that wants instant gratification. They want it now without the hard work and without the necessary time it takes to learn it. They want the Preacher to tell them what it means, they want a man , other books, and TV, CD's and anything but the Bible to tell them what it says and what it means.
