The first RCC error here is that Jesus died on Friday. Time & again, he said He's be in the grave THREE DAYS & THREE NIGHTS. Now, if He died Friday afternoon & rose early Sunday AM, that's only one day & 2 nights.
Remember, the day after His execution was a HIGH SABBATH,(John 19:31) that is, a special observance day. On these days, all the usual Sabbath rules were observed, as well as the special rules for that particular occasion. This applied, even if the high Sabbath fell on the usual Sabbath day.
Now, what WAS this particular high Sabbath? It was the HOLY CONVOCATION that was to follow the day after the passover lamb was eaten.(Exodus 12;16) IT WAS NOT THE REGULAR WEEKLY SABBATH! Remember, the Jews begin a new day at SUNSET, not at midnight as we do; they ate the passover lamb on the eve of the first day, went to bed, & spent the next day preparing for the holy convocation,(washing, cooking, etc.) whose day began at sunset that eve. Thus, the Jews wanted the bodies off the crosses before sunset.
Jesus died WEDNESDAY EVE; this put His body in the tomb Wed, Thu. & Fri. nights, & Thu., Fri., & Sat. days. I believe He arose at sunset Saturday eve. Remember, when the angel rolled the stone from in fronta the tomb entrance, JESUS WAS ALREADY GONE. This opening of the tomb was NOT the moment of His resurrection.
No, Jesus did NOT die on a Friday! Lookit up-it's all in Scripture!
The second RCC booboo was compromising a doctrine to keep some men happy. Even though that doctrine was man-made & had no authorization from GOD, it still was a doc of the RCC at the time. They compromised on it, same as the JWs have compromised on blood TXs, saying it's OK to TX certain components of blood!
Again, doing penance of Fridays is a TRADITION OF MEN, invented by men, found NOWHERE in SCRIPTURE. And to top it all off, it's based upon another MAN-MADE GOOF, the belief that Jesus died on a Friday!
"robycop3 - The avowed enemy of ALL man-made doctrines of worship!"
