So that's where Dagon is mentioned. I've read both Judges and 1 Samuel, but that was several years ago. Guess I need a refresher. I have been reading other parts of Scripture, mostly the New Testament and the Prophets of the Old Testament.

I've seen the mitre on my bishop's head, and it doesn't look "fishy" to me. It's just tall. In the early Church (a few centuries after Christ) the bishops would wear a crown - not the crown the Burger King guy in the commercial wears, but a high purple hat with jewels in it. It was to symbolize royalty; Christ is priest, prophet and king, and it symbolized what we become through our baptism. The bishops back then also wore bright muti-colored robes to signify the glory of God. Anyway, that's what was probably the beginning of what the bishops currently wear. It's been toned down considerably from what it used to look like. But it's probably taller than it used to be.

What's a "cybele"? Is that somewhere else in Scripture?
