I bought a can of German rifle bore cleaner years ago and was suprized to find that this solvent has many medical uses including removing ticks and use as a wound cleaner and disinfectant. The product is called "Balistol", and is now produced in the United States as well as Europe.
Among its many uses is the cleaning of meat cutting machines in restaurants and butcher shops.

The most amazing property of this solvent is that with care it can soften and remove scar tissue from old injuries. After using the product to clean a number of antique rifles and shotguns I'd noticed that a very ugly and stiff surgical scar on my hand had begun to soften and I then took to soaking the scar and debriding it with 0000 steel wool every few days. After a month the thick ropy scar ,which I'd had for over 20 years was almost invisible and has never come back.
