One thing to keep in mind is that it is easy to make a 'category error' in making translation claims, thinking there must be a one-to-one word correspondence. However there is not one word that ipso facto means virgin in Hebrew, there are no words that mean exactly virgin. If I remember Rashi has his own interesting comment on another form of almah (perhaps alamoth in the Song of Solomon). And Daniel has some interesting additions about the etymology.

In nuanced translation questions one should be cautious and not be overly dogmatic.
