We are to "reckon" ourselves dead to sin, but alive to Jesus Christ. What does that mean? In the South when someone says, "I reckon so," that means they think so. But that's not what this word means.
"Reckon" is a legal term to mean "to count upon" or "calculate." When you trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you reckoned upon what He did on the cross to save you. You depend upon His righteousness.
And just as you reckon upon Him for victory over the penalty of sin, you also reckon upon Him for victory over the power of sin.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feetAnd a light unto my path Thy Word is a lamp unto my feetAnd a light unto my path When I feel afraidThink I've lost my wayStill You're there right beside me And nothing will I fearAs long as You are nearPlease be near me to the end Thy Word is a lamp unto my feetAnd a light unto my path Thy Word is a lamp unto my feetAnd a light unto my path Now I will not forget Your love for me and yetMy heart forever is wandering Please be my guide and hold me to Your sideAnd I will love You to the end Thy Word is a lamp unto my feetAnd a light unto my path Thy Word is a lamp unto my feetAnd a light unto my path
