The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

What Does It Mean to Be Great?

Matthew 20:26

But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

Matthew 20:27

And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Matthew 20:28

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

In Jesus' day, the pagan Gentile princes had many servants--this was a mark of their greatness. To be great in God's eyes, on the other hand, we are to be servants.

Do you want to be great? Then minister to others. There are some people who are great because they have servants. That is the pagan way. Jesus said that the measure of a Christian's greatness is not the number of his servants but by how many men he serves.
Now, don't miss this point. Jesus did not say for us not to be great. He said, "Be great, but just be certain that your greatness is measured in God's economy." That is sanctified ambition.

Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed;

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
and hear the brook, and feel he gentle breeze;

And when I think that God his son not sparing,
Sent him to die - I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin:

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home- what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
