Good post Shain.  It isn't really about "Baptists" or any denomination, but what Mr. Taylor wrote is noteworthy.  Let's keep in mind that back then it was a bit more difficult to get to Church.  No cars, no "good" roads, and for the majority it was probably a longer trip.  I notice this is from an English perspective, so perhaps most in England were living in cities like London and it wasn't as hard for them to get to Church as it was a farmer.

The question is why people aren't going -- even Christians?  I think the answers are obvious that with this lifestyle we as a society have people just don't care.   Of course, I too believe the end is near, and God's about to end it.

Another question (which I know the answer to, I'm just asking for discussion sake):  Does the Bible say attendance is important?  I know it does, but I'd like to hear from others first.

For the record, I attend every scheduled Church service their is. I've missed two since 2001, and it was when I first came to Truth, and I had prior businesss obligations.  Not a good excuse, I know....  Not bragging about it either.

Great to see someone going to Church.

I know times have changed but just take a look at any Football stadium during football season, they are always sold out. People go to those games if its raining, snowing or whatever, but have that same type weather happening during Church time and people stay home. They stay home even when its sunny out. You remember early on the Christians ( Acts ) studied God's Word daily, everyday. You don't even have Church going Christians who study their Bibles once a week let alone daily.

Look at these boards, we have the cream of the crop who visit these boards and yet look how some interpret scripture....

I learned a very long time ago, let God be God, let God teach me and put my human nature down for at least 60 minutes a day.
