"I am making nothing up, nor using terms in ways uncommon to Christianity. Neither the Creeds nor Scripture were originally written in English. When they were translated into English, "person" was the word commonly used for "hypostasis", and used as such by those affirming orthodox Trinitarianism. Thus, your definition is wrong, and putting the little dictionary you pulled off your shelf up against nearly 2,000 years of church history is not comparing apples with apples. Your lack of knowledge about these things is not support for your claims."
The creeds and the Scripture are not on par with one another. We have the exact words in English to translate the original languages accurately. But back to the creeds, my definition of person is not wrong as I told you the correct word is hypostases as both are found in my dictionary. If the two words mean exactly the same thing, they would have the same definition, but the word person is used because the translators of those creeds did not translate accurately, for the word person is not sufficient in defining hypostases. Do not despise my dictionary either, this is the life's work of a man of higher education than most anyone you would ever meet today.
"The early church laid out the Creeds, and the early church laid out the NT Canon."
You are wrong, wrong, wrong. The first council of Nicea was convened by guess who....Emperor Constantine, the founder of the Roman Catholic Church. This is also a direct quote from the Nicene Creed...."We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church." There is not one catholic (universal) church as the Catholics teach, but as a Baptist I believe in the autonomy of the local church, with the head of that church being that own church's pastor as he follows the Lord, not the bishop of Rome.
"by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary" Who other than Catholics use the title...."The Virgin"? Mary is not "The Virgin", but she was "a virgin" when she concieved.
From the Anathasian Creed...."Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catholic faith. Which faith except every one does keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly." Do you keep the catholic faith Brian?
"And the catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity;" That is Catholic my friend.
"And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting; and they that have done evil, into everlasting fire." More Catholic doctrine from this creed. We have all done evil and none of us do good, there is only one good and that is God which is why we are saved by grace through faith in Christ, not our works, or the keeping of a catholic dogma.
"This is the catholic faith; which except a man believe faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved." So says all the catholics.
You can try to deny all you want Brian, but I am not as unlearned in these matters as you may hope.
"You don't have to understand it. You should simply stop arguing against it, especially since you admit you do not understand it. Once you understand it, and if you still disagree, then put forth your case. Until then, all you're accomplishing is demonstrating your pride in that you think you are right and nearly 2,000 years of fundamental Christian doctrine is wrong, based on something you admit you don't even understand in the first place."
You are not taking one thing into account. The Ana-baptists doctrine is not really recorded in that "fundamental Christian doctrine", oh wait yes it is! The BIBLE. Also, I never argued against it, you argued against me and not the other way around. I simply told you that it doesn't make any sense. In fact, I really believe that you don't even understand it. If you do, then answer this....
How or in what way are the Father, Word, and Holy Ghost distinct from one another? What makes them different?
I am not your teacher and only wish to share things with you that you may in turn try them by your own knowledge of the Lord. I really don't know any thing. Still learning and growing in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praying for you and all men that you would also come to the knowledge of the truth and continue to grow in it. I am a sinner, but I have a hope that God through Jesus Christ our Lord will deliver me from my present situation of being a sinner and deliver me from this vile body and I thank him for this promise of eternal life. This is my faith that I share with all my brethren in the Lord who we patiently wait for. Jesus Christ IS come in the flesh.
Rom 8:22-25
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only
they,
but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption,
to
wit
, the redemption of our body. For
we
are
saved
by
hope
: but
hope
that is seen is not
hope
: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet
hope
for? But if we hope for that we see not,
then
do we with patience wait for
it.
